A contemporary elevation in white stucco with a flat parapet roofline, a lit porte cochere and floating concrete pavers stepping up from the street. The lighting was designed with the architecture rather than added after, which is why the house reads as well at dusk as it does at noon.
Contemporary is the hardest style to build well in South Texas, because there is nowhere to hide. Flat parapets have to drain properly, stucco has to be detailed to survive humidity, and every reveal line has to be straight or the whole elevation reads as a mistake.
The entry sequence does the work here. Rather than a path to a door, the approach is a set of floating concrete pavers that climb the grade, terminating at a lit entry tower. The porte cochere carries a wood slat soffit that warms the whole composition after dark.
